A history of aerial surveillance in the UK since the 1960's.
Having been an AEOp (R) - Air Electronics Operattor 'Dry Man' on 206 Sqn for two tours and doing fisheries protection with Directflight (now AIrtask) for ten years I took a risk in 2012 to join a start up avaition company called C-Aviation. Unfortunately when C-Aviation went into administration my time working in the aerial surveillance role finally ended. I did however manage to maintain my connection with aviation by becoming a Flight Dispatcher at Exeter Airport working predominately with FlyBe and Tui crews. I really enjoyed my time as a 'FlightCo', however with Flybe going bust and COVID another change now sees me working with children in a primary school in Taunton as an IT technician and running my own business.... it just goes to show the traning you received as ab initio aircrew pretty much sets you up to deal wtih anything in life!
This project is a work in progress. So hopefully - with a little help; it will highlight some of the lesser known facets and facts of both military and civilian aerial work. So, if you have come across this site and think you have something to offer.... please get in touch:
